The skeletal system may be divided into two functional parts.
1.The axial skeleton :consist of the bones of the head(cranium or skull) neck(hyoid bone and vertebrae) and trunk(ribs, sternum, vertebrae and sacrum).
2.The appendicular skeleton: consists of bones of the limbs, including those forming the pectoral(shoulder) and pelvic girdles.

Approaches to studying anatomy.
Anatomy is the setting(structure) in which the events(functions) of life occur. The three basic approach to studying anatomy are regional, systematic and clinical (or applied); reflecting the body's organisation and the priorities and purpose for studying it.
